Q&A: Why I Started My Blog

Happy Friday! I’m doing something a little different this week. This is my first Question and Answer post, so that you all can get to know me a little better! Let me know if you like these posts and I’ll do them more often. Ps: I asked for questions on Instagram, so to have your questions included next time, be sure to follow me!

What made you want to start blogging?

I needed a creative outlet. I have always loved fashion, beauty and interior design. Starting a blog was a great way for me to express myself that way. Working in the financial industry, I don’t really get to be creative, and it was starting to drive me nuts! Blogging let’s me be myself and bring my creative side out.

How do you manage your time being a blogger? I.e accomplishing your personal and business tasks. Do you have a system in place to keep it all organized?

This has been something that I’ve been struggling with for a while now. BALANCE. I am not the best at time management, or being organized. Because of that, I get really stressed out and it can make blogging feel like a chore sometimes – which defeats the whole purpose!

I live by my planner, it’s a life saver for me! In order for me to utilize my planner as best as I can, I need to write in everything. The time I’m at work, when I’m eating dinner, when I’m writing, taking photos, etc. I try to write it down to the hour, to make sure I can fit everything into my busy schedule. I make sure to leave time for me, too. Whether that’s watching a show, reading a book, take a nap… I need time to detox.

I try and plan my blog posts out a month ahead of time. By this I mean, I’m looking at April right now, and writing in my planner, what kinds of posts I’m going to write, and when. I don’t write my posts ahead of time, I write them a day or two before I want to post them. I think taking that next step and writing them ahead of time as well, will help me to better stay on schedule.

If you have any tips or tricks for staying organized and on schedule, please leave them below! Again, this is something I’m still working on and trying to master.

What do you do for your full time job?

I work for a MassMutual branch doing Marketing and Event planning! However, I just got my Life and Health license to become an insurance broker and I’m working on getting my Series 7 and Series 66 to become a financial advisor!

Any advice for someone who wants to start a blog?

Just jump in and do it! It’s going to be very intimidating at first, but you shouldn’t second guess yourself. If it’s something you love you should give it a try. As long as you are genuine, and stay true to yourself, that will be what makes you unique.

When I first started my blog, I quickly realized how many fashion bloggers there are out there. I was trying to be like everyone else that was successful and I quickly realized that I had lost myself and my style, in doing so. I remember looking at my closet and my Instagram, just a few months ago, at some of the clothing items I had bought, and I thought… this isn’t me? I would never reach for these pieces. That was when I needed to do a serious reality check and reevaluate my style, and who/what I wanted to portray. Just because an item is trending on Instagram, throughout the fashion world, doesn’t mean you need to have it. This was something I had to realize. Buy items because YOU love them, not because other people love them.

What has been the hardest part about blogging for you?

It’s a ton of work, a lot more work than I anticipated. Working a full time job, having a social life, trying to be a successful blogger, staying healthy, etc. It can be really overwhelming. The hardest part for me to keep up with has been keeping my Instagram game strong. In order for my Instagram to grow I feel like I need to be on it constantly! And that’s just not me and frankly I don’t have time for that.

I’m struggling with how important Instagram is for fashion bloggers. You need to post once a day at least and always be commenting on other bloggers photos. I’m sure a lot of you know about Instagram’s new algorithm as well, which has made being noticed on Instagram even harder.

I’ve learned that I care more about the quality of my Instagram’s than the quantity. I was obsessed with how many followers I had at all times, and it was making the journey too stressful for me. I will lose 30-40 followers in a day, but then gain 30 followers back. It’s always fluctuating, so as important as how many followers you have is, I’ve tried to enjoy it more and focus on the quality.

I hope you all learned a little bit more about me! I really enjoyed answering your questions. Feel free to leave some more below and I can do another Q&A soon!

Thanks for stopping by! Xo Court

    1. Thank you for your question! My two top tips would be to make time to exercise, and clean eating. Exercising a little bit every day if you can, is so important! And as far as clean eating, I mean making your food from fresh, healthy, ingredients. I’ve been loving Hello Fresh, to make sure I’m eating fresh healthy foods! I could do an entire post about staying healthy, but in order to keep it short and sweet, those would be my top tips!

It’s been really helping me keep on track with eating better as well as not throwing away groceries. I think your blog looks great! I’d say, make sure to try and post on a regular schedule, I try to post every Thursday or Friday. And continue to write about what you love and are passionate about! It will show in your writing
